TEENS PARTICIPATE IN MOCK TRIALS IN EUROPE
Eight New Mexico high school students were the only Americans to participate in the Model International Criminal Court mock trials held recently in Poland. Mollie Baland, Max Bernstein, John Chappell, Madeline Cunnings, Campbell Galon, Prestin Nikolai, Neil Sparks and Annelise Van Buren were selected by the New Mexico Human Rights Projects, the only U.S. organization invited to attend and send students. Bernstein and Chappell are juniors at Albuquerque Academy. Bernstein’s parents are David Bernstein and Erika Rimson. Chappell is the son of Cael and Mary Chappell. Cunnings, the daughter of Robert and Tara Cunnings, is a Bosque School senior. Sparks, a Sandia High School senior, is the son of Randy Sparks and Brenda Wolfenbarger. Baland, Nikolai, and Van Buren attend V. Sue Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho, where Baland and Nikolai are juniors and Van Buren is a senior. Baland is the daughter of Dave Baland and Beth Paiz. Nikolai is the daughter of Curt and Rose Nikolai. Van Buren’s parents are Harry Van Buren and Donna Ray. Galon, the son of Joe Galon and Renada Peery-Galon, is a senior at The Academy for Technology and the Classics in Santa Fe.
