NMHRP selected 8 students to partcipate in the Model International Criminal Court mock trials

In November 2014, NMHRP conducted a statewide essay contest on international justice and the role of the U.S. in the ICC.  NMHRP received essays from 53 New Mexico high school students.  Through a double-blind evaluation of both submitted essays and interviews, judges selected 8 students.  NMHRP’s panel of judges was comprised of the legal counsel for the Albuquerque FBI field office, a N.M. Court of Appeals judge, a university professor and genocide scholar, and three National Board certified English teachers.  NMHRP chaperones will travel to Poland in February with the 8 student winners from Farmington, Roswell, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, Albuquerque, and Rio Rancho.  The students will participate in the 2015 Model International Criminal Court mock trials!

    About

New Mexico Human Rights Projects (NMHRP) is the only non-profit organization in the state providing unique, hands-on programs that engage students intellectually and emotionally to think about the choices they make when confronted with prejudice, racism, violence and discrimination. NMHRP seeks to challenge our most basic understanding of human nature and encourage youth to be more respectful, compassionate and empathic human beings.
